Battle of the Nutball Christians
"Not only it is getting worse," commented Maddow, "it's getting weirder."
In the 22 minute message to his congregation placed on his website last Sunday, Warren first denied ever "equating gay partnership with incest and pedophilia" -- which Maddow quickly disproved with a clip of him doing just that -- and then went on to attack his critics for their "false accusations, attacks, outright lies, and hateful slander, and really a lot of hate speech."
"It's what I would call 'Christophobia.'" Warren concluded. "People who are afraid of any Christian."
"Might those people possibly just be Pastor Rick-o-phobes?" Maddow asked.
Maddow was joined by Nation columnist Katha Pollitt, who commented, "Rick Warren, I think when you said he confuses himself with Christ, I think you're onto something. The man obviously has a colossal ego. ... This is a big opportunity for him."
Pollitt added, however, that "I thought that the things you noticed would fly by the people that that was aimed at who share those beliefs. They also think that they're the real Christians, so if you don't like Rick Warren, you don't like Christ."
However, not everyone who thinks of themself as a real Christian does approve of Rick Warren. Wiley Drake, the pastor of a Southern Baptist church in Orange County, California has been bashing Warren for agreeing to appear at the inauguration.
In a widely-distributed email, Drake -- who does not believe that Obama is an American citizen -- thundered that "God will punish" Warren for his "recent plan to invoke the presence of almighty God on this evil illegal alien." In a later interview, Drake explained, "It's an abomination before God and God's going to deal with that."

Rick Warren: Pizza-Eating Moron
"But that doesn’t mean I should enter into a lifelong commitment with Sicilian or plain, nor bed it down, nor bring children into the world and have them have to explain to their classmates why their mom’s crust is not a crisp as it once was.
"Does any child deserve to have their friends tossing Monday 2 for 1 coupons in his face? Not in my world they don’t. Yet, to say that I am against pizza-eaters or gays is absurd. Our Saddleback Church offer more weight-watchers meetings to overeaters than any other evangelical megachurch on the west coast."
This is the kind of sharp thinking typified by evangelicals of Warren's ilk. The above is his defense when asked about his recent gay hating.
I do give Warren credit for the good things he does so let's not go down that stupid rat hole. This is all about his activisim against giving gays equal rights.

Huh?
Just when I think there is not enough stupid to go around, a story like this raises its ugly head. First of all, this church is fucked. Who would want to be a member of a church like this? Unfortunately, I think, the answer is a lot of people. If the clergy at that church "believe" her relationship to be harmful then they should be trying to help her, not threatening to publicly humiliate her.
If the church is truly trying to carry out the word of its god, then they should schedule a public stoning of this woman because that is the biblical punishment for adultery.
Then there is this woman who, worried about public exposure, takes her case to the press. If her little fucktard offspring hadn't known that Mommy was fucking her boyfriend they sure do now. If she was interested in publicly flogging this church, better to have waited until after they "outed" her (or invite a journalist to the outing).
Stupid just oozes outta every pore of this story.

Issa He Fucking Kidding?
Rep. Darrel Issa (R-CA), who will become ranking member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, is making clear the next president will be firmly in his sights.
This ass clown (and his compadres) spent the past 8 years with their fingers up their ass watching the most corrupt, inept, and dangerous administration in the history of this country run rampant... and now he is interested in oversight? Fuck him.
Of course, oversight is a great thing, and Congress needs to get back to doing it. But that hypocrite Issa can eat me. Whenever Henry Waxman investigated abuses within the Bush administration (admittedly, not enough since taking charge of the Oversight Committee two years ago) Issa bitched and moaned.
For anyone interested, here is classic Issa in action.

Sock and Awe

Betcha thought I wasn't going to comment on the shoe-throwing incident? Well, I wasn't until I saw this great web game where you can hurl shoes at W.
It is called "Sock and Awe" - and if you know me, I just cannot resist a good pun!

Caroline Kennedy? There's Gotta Be Someone More Qualified
But that is no way to choose a replacement Senator. Kennedy's only "qualification" is having the last name of Kennedy. I guess she could learn on the job, but I hope Governor Patterson appoints someone more suited to hit the ground running (maybe AG Andrew Cuomo?)

Not Even Bush Believes in Literal Bible
Interesting. I tend to think that most religious people do not believe in the literal truth of the christian bible. But I might be wrong.
It really wouldn't surprise me to find out that I am wrong because people, in general, tend to be stupider than I give them credit for being.
Not sure I understand exactly what Bush's position on evolution actually is... but then again, the man is less than consistently coherent in his public statements.
