Mike Huckabee's Web Site Scares the Shit Outta Me

Have you taken a look at MikeHuckabee.com lately? All it shows is a countdown timer that ends on April 15th. Here is what it looks/looked like:

What the fuck is this? Some say it signals when the old Huckster will be launching a new Christian PAC. I've heard others say it is a countdown to the merger of the site with McCain's because he will be the VP. Still others speculate it is a countdown to the rapture.

Whatever he is counting down over there, I'm reasonably sure I won't enjoy what eventually happens on 4/15.

The USA's Crumbling Infrastrucutre

No one can predict what bridge, levee or water main will fail next. But some problems are widely known, and work is long overdue.

Let's face it, the infrastrucutre of the USA is long overdue for an overhaul. Bridges collapse and kill commuters, blackouts in the northeast are caused by an aging electric grid, many roads are in barely drive-able condition, and anyone who flies regularly knows how decrepit the systems controlling air traffic are.

FDR built much of the infrastrcuture that made the USA an amazing success story; and Ike helped to refurbish and build more infrastructure in the late 1950's. But ever since the conservatives have taken over control of the Republican party government gets a bad rap. Our infrastructure was built by governement and without responsible government involvement it will crumble.

Are These Dudes Really Libertarians?

Former Republican Rep. Bob Barr said Saturday he has formed a presidential exploratory committee and may seek the Libertarian party nomination.

The same article goes on to state that Mike Gravel is also in the field of candidates looking to be the Libertarian presidential candidate.

If this is the best the Libertarians can do -- Democratic and Republican cast-offss -- I don't know why anyone would vote Libertarian in the fall...

More Christian Child Abuse

An Oregon City couple who tried to heal their dying daughter with prayer walked hand-in-hand into a crowded Clackamas County courtroom Monday and pleaded not guilty to charges of manslaughter and criminal mistreatment.

Carl Brent Worthington, 28, and Raylene Marie Worthington, 25, are the first parents prosecuted since Oregon cracked down on faith-healing deaths nine years ago, according to legislators and legal experts. If convicted, they could spend more than six years in prison.

National advocates for religious freedom and child welfare have been following the Worthington case, and reporters shadowed the defendants from the moment they arrived Monday at the Clackamas County courthouse, flanked by attorneys.

...

Their 15-month-old daughter, Ava Worthington, died at home March 2 from bacterial bronchial pneumonia and a blood infection. Both conditions could have been treated with antibiotics, according to Dr. Christopher Young, a deputy state medical examiner. Her breathing was further compromised by a benign, four-inch cyst on her neck that had never been medically addressed, Young said.

Six years is not enough. And, what's more, freaks like this should probably be sterilized so they don't bring any more children into this world to be tortured and abused by their backward, stupid beliefs.

Big Reason Christians Should Want Secular Government

Islam has surpassed Roman Catholicism as the world's largest religion, the Vatican newspaper said Sunday.

"For the first time in history, we are no longer at the top: Muslims have overtaken us," Monsignor Vittorio Formenti said in an interview with the Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano. Formenti compiles the Vatican's yearbook.

He said that Catholics accounted for 17.4 percent of the world population — a stable percentage — while Muslims were at 19.2 percent.

"It is true that while Muslim families, as is well known, continue to make a lot of children, Christian ones on the contrary tend to have fewer and fewer," the monsignor said.

Formenti said that the data refer to 2006. The figures on Muslims were put together by Muslim countries and then provided to the United Nations, he said, adding that the Vatican could only vouch for its own data.

When considering all Christians and not just Catholics, Christians make up 33 percent of the world population, Formenti said.

Spokesmen for the Vatican and the United Nations did not immediately return phone calls seeking comment Sunday.

Christians want their way when they are the majority, but the time is slowly approaching when they will not be the majority. I probably won't be around any longer when it happens, but it would be fun to see the same people who want christianity spread throughout government argue against islam being spread throughout government.

Biblical Wisdom, Part 10

"And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven" (Matthew 23:9).

So what was I supposed to call my actual father, then?

The Bible Promotes Child Abuse... Again

The parents of an 11-year-old girl who died Sunday from an untreated form of diabetes prayed for the girl's health rather than seek medical intervention, police said.

According to police, Madeline Kara Neumann of the town of Weston died of diabetic ketoacidosis, a condition that develops when a person's body has too little insulin. She reportedly had not received medical treatment since she was 3 years old, said Everest Metro Police Chief Dan Vergin, whose department is investigating.

Interesting. Here again, we have people deciding to pray instead of seek medical help. But these are the people who truly believe what is in the bible... not the people who would have taken the child to the doctor, which would have undoubtedly prolonged the child's life. After all, John 16:23 contains that phrase "...Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you." So these people believed the lies in the bible, asked, but did not receive.

Oh, sure, they are nut balls. But anyone who believes what is in the bible is a nut ball IMHO. The parents deserve the fate that befalls them. One dead daughter and the rest of their children taken away from them. But things like this should jar the "faithful" awake and make them wonder "Hey, just what the fuck do we actually believe here?" I mean, if we are a "Christian nation" as the right wing wants us to believe, why would these parents need to have their children taken away from them? After all, they are just following their christian faith.
