Evidently, 20 years ago, Scientologists considered forming a Political Action Committee to advance their influence in government policies.

Interesting, especially that the memo was written by John Coale, who is currently an adviser to Alaska Governor Sarah Palin (Rep).

So This is What Socialism Looks Like?

The media has been obsessing about President Obama's plan to roll back the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans—from 35% to 39.6%—even asking if that makes him a socialist.

But do you know what tax rate the wealthiest Americans paid on the top portion of their earnings at the end of Ronald Reagan's first term? 50%.

Under Richard Nixon? 70%. Under Dwight Eisenhower? 91%!

So Obama is more than 10% less socialist that Ronald Reagan, more than 30% less socialist than Tricky Dick, and more than 50% less socialist than good old Ike.

For all the whining about rolling back Bush's irresponsible tax cuts, the truth is that Obama's plan cuts taxes for 95% of working Americans. Further, it closes huge tax loopholes for oil companies, hedge funds and corporations that ship jobs overseas so that we can invest in the priorities that will get our economy back on track.

Stem Cells Research Ban Lifted... Hooray!!!

Scientists on Monday cheered President Obama's lifting of restrictions on the use of federal money for human embryonic stem cell research, while social conservatives and abortion opponents criticized the move.

"The limitations on stem cell research have not allowed scientists to do meaningful experiments for improving human lives," said John Pollock, associate professor of biological sciences at Duquesne University. "There will be greater latitude to explore meaningful options for new therapies."

Kudos to President Obama for lifting this stupid ban and hopefully for leading the USA back along the path to science and reason.

Republicans Rush to Apolgize to Rush

Evidently now Rush Limbaugh is the head of the Republican party and you just can't criticize that old gas bag if you are a Republican or a conservative. Oh, how far the Republicans have fallen that a corpulent, drug-addled, windbag with an AM talk radio show is now their leader!

So, if you're a Republican and if you've said something bad about Rush you can go to the web and automatically generate an apology letter to that jackass Limbaugh.

Islamic countries Monday won United Nations backing for an anti-blasphemy measure Canada and other Western critics say risks being used to limit freedom of speech.

Combating Defamation of Religions passed 85–50 with 42 abstentions in a key UN General Assembly committee, and will enter into the international record after an expected rubber stamp by the plenary later in the year.

According to Christian Aplogetics and Research Ministry, atheism "is, essentially, a negative position."

How is atheism a negative position? I am not an ANTItheist, I am an atheist. I am not AGAINST God; I don't think God exists.

Atheism is the lack of theism. Atheism is not a belief, it is the lack of belief. It's really as simple as that.

For thousands of years, theists have used their versions of God to explain what they cannot explain. The beginning of the universe? I can't explain it, but I also do not accept the theists' explanation.

I'm not against anyone's religion. I just don't want any part of it. See, there's that whole lack of belief; I don't hold a negative position. I don't deny the existence of a God, for to deny such a thing would mean that I have knowledge of a God that I am being asked to affirm. I don't.

I will, however, stand up for secularism in government, as I do believe that the separation of church and state is necessary for a truly free society. As far as I'm concerned, you are free to practice religion as you see fit -- or none at all -- as long as it does not infringe upon my right to live the life I choose, which is that of an atheist.
