He Had A Dream

Today is Martin Luther King, Jr. day in the USA. It is a national holiday that many companies choose not to celebrate (by not giving their employees the day off). That is a shame, because many could benefit from using the day for quiet reflection on the huge contributions the man made toward eliminating racism. And that reflection would be helpful because racism has not yet been completely eliminated.

In a bit of irony that I did not know when I posted this earlier today, In Arkansas, Alabama and Mississippi, the slain civil rights leader shares a state holiday with Robert E. Lee, commanding officer of the Confederate Army.

How sad that a beacon of equality would be celebrated on the same day as the leader of the army that was trying to protect the right to own slaves.
