Kudos to Arlen Specter and the Patriots Suck!

Sen. Arlen Specter wants an independent investigation of the Patriots’ taping of opposing coaches’ signals similar to the Mitchell Report on performance enhancing drugs in baseball.
Specter again criticized the league’s handling of the investigation and threatened the possibility of revoking the NFL’s antitrust exemption during a news conference Wednesday. The senior Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee met with former New England video assistant Matt Walsh a day earlier.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell indicated he considered the investigation over after meeting with Walsh on Tuesday.

“Everybody pooh-poohs it,” Specter said. “It’s ridiculous to make that kind of contention.”
Specter, from Pennsylvania, cited the fact a Patriots attorney sat in on Walsh’s meeting with Goodell as proof the investigation has not been impartial.

He repeated his disapproval of Goodell’s decision to destroy the notes and tapes confiscated during the initial investigation last fall.

“That sequence is incomprehensible,” Specter said. “It’s an insult to the intelligence of the people who follow it.”

If the NFL condones cheating, Specter said, it encourages others to cheat. “They owe the public a lot more candor and a lot more credibility,” he said.

Now, I'm not usually a big fan of Congress getting involved in sports, but I want to extend a big thumbs up to Arlen Specter for continuing to doggedly pursue this. The NFL wants this to go away because their favorite golden boys in Boston might be tarnished. Well, the Patriots are cheaters. Big fat, filthy cheaters and they should be punished severely - not just the little slap on the wrist of losing a draft pick. The Patriots did not just cheat in one game against the Jets, but consistently and regularly. And guess what, if you cheat it is easier to win Super Bowls.

If the NFL doesn't punish them then the US Congress is well within in its rights to rescind the antitrust exemption enjoyed by the NFL.

Go, Arlen, Go!

My my, such language. No wonder you're anonymous. Great way to contribute to the discussion. (sarcasm, by the way)

I'm sure the anonymous coward is just another Patriots fan. No surprise.

jeez, csm, how dare you attack the integrity of the patriots!!
that's just downright unpatriotic. i hope homeland defense opens up an investigation of your unamerican ways, you, you, you socialist, you!
why, you're no better than those commie-pinkos that snitched on our soldiers at abu ghraib, or those traitor defense lawyers at gitmo.
and you call yourself an american... ;)

Our government investigating a football team. Nice. 8% approval not low enough for this new congress that promised the big changes?

The problem does not lie with just the Democrats, anon(fcc). I seem to remember your beloved President bringing up steroids in baseball in a State of the Union address and your presumed beloved Presidential pick for the next go-around asking Congress to investigate professional boxing. Both sides are blind to the real problems that plague our country. A pox on both houses, I say.

And in the case the issue is not football, exactly, but a monopoly operating uncontrolled and without checks and balances. It is absolutely the role of government to control and monitor monopolistic activity.

And, of course, the Patriots really do suck. Total bush league bastards (Bill Bellicheck walking off the field and not shaking hands before the Super Bowl was over shows how much their coach sucks).

what does "this new congress" have to do with arlen specter, a senator and republican, anyways?
seems like you're getting confused, fcc.

It's funny that some of you accuse an anonymous poster of being a coward. Does "ceroill" or "csm" really reveal anything about you? Does it make you any less anonymous? Should our government really be wasting our tax dollars on an NFL scandal?

csm said...

Yes, ceroill and csm make us less anonymous. If you don't understand how, then there is no sense trying to explain it to you.

Although you are not totally anonymous - I know you are posting from Massachusetts, probably making me right about you being a Patriots fan.

I have on occasion mentioned what my name really is. It's so common that it's virtually useless as a sign on name in most places, so I have used this one as a place holder.

bullshitproof.net got it right on Specter the man is an ass

Although Specter may, indeed, be an ass, even an ass gets it right every now and then. And he has it right that the Patriots are fucking cheaters and they need to be punished. Their coach should be banned for life from the NFL and they should lose a number 2 pick next year and a 3 pcik the year after. Furthermore, there should oversight, in the form of an NFL-appointed monitor to watch the Patriots throughout the year to make sure they don't start to cheat again. Anybody can win if they have the other teams signals and plays. I used to be impressed by the Patriots but now I think they are a classless bunch of cheaters!

Interesting, anonymous. The AP story (your first link, if both anonymous postings are from the same person) basicallky makes the point that Bill Belichick is a big fat liar and a cheater.

The CBS News story is 15 seconds of worthless denial from a liar.

Thanks for sharing the links.

Check out Arlen Specter's past. He believes that JFK was shot buy single bullet. "the magic bullet."
And wow a sports team cheating, I'm so shocked. How about stealing signs in baseball?
Let's investigate that. How bout we let Congress inspect and investigate all sports that's what you really want. Maybe Congress can stick it's nose into High school sports and Little league. we'll nip that cheating in the bud. Fine Congress come into our homes and make sure we're not cheating. Damn there is alot of saints in world, let cleanse. Let the NfL deal with this. the Government needs to worry about Wars maybe the oil and gas prices and a whole list of others things that are much more important.

Anonymous, you are apparently so blinded by your allegiance to the cheaters from New England that you cannot think straight. Both the NFL and MLB are monopolies. Monopolies are controlled and regulated by the government so that they do not run amock over people's rights. Investigating a cover up of cheating/manipulation within a monopoly is a valid use of government effort.

Regarding Senator Specter's other past thoughts/practices/beliefs, I don't really give a shit. I like what he is doing this time, so more power to him!
